A customer with a large number of locations wanted to report by department . Because the company had grown by acquisition and there was no discipline in the use of org Unit or costcode, I developed a 'drag and drop' Tee Chart where they could design various alternative reporting structures.Employees could be selected as a group by their organisational unit, or location but could be overidden by their emp no, while also automatically accepting changes and additions made in PSe.

An enquiry came in from a potential new customer asking if we could provide consultancy on Cognos 8. They had bought one licence to enable a project to put their emplyees payslips online. Their Pyroll system, PSe, uases Cognos Impromptu to provide all reporting. Normally the payslips are selected for a given Pay Group, Tax Year and Period, and all the chosen payslips are generated as one report.

Some work on SQL views to enable easier Impromptu reporting for BVPI which are used for national statistics in local government but are also used in the private sector.

Audit data is stored in an efficient war to be written, as to reduce the impact of auditing on normal processing activities. If this data is required for reporting then the format is unsuitable for anything intricate. Audit data can come in high volumes, especially if auditing is on during data take-on or mass updates of data.

PSe - System Implementation and reporting performance problems.

Due to the implementation of PSe, a new HR and payroll system, all statutory forms (P11, P45, P60, etc), Payslips and Management Reports required rewriting. Report development requires an analytical mind as inevitably you end up performing final quality inspection and validation over the data take on.

Due to the implementation of PSe, a new HR and payroll system, all reports were written using prompts for Pay Group, Tax Year and Period, which is the normal way of doing things.

Operationally, although you get all of the reports what you want. It is a very slow way of doing things as many of the pre and post pay run reports are called with the same parameters.

A Northgate PS Enterprise customer wanted to print large volumes of payslips, using the Gandlake LaserServe. PSe uses Cognos Impromptu to produce Payslips but is unable to provide an adequate text output for LaserServe. Our solution also provided a means of changing text narratives and dramatically reduced the time to produce the payslips.

Report Launcher, written using standard Cognos Script presents the user with a window list of all of the pay run reports. The required reports are checked and the parameters are only entered in once (Selected from a list box). Output is to print and a PDF archive.

A Northgate PS Enterprise customer wanted a way to provide more accurate reporting from the audit data. Unfortunately the tools within the standard product were unable to be scheduled and took too long to process. Our solution also provides a way to archive the data to a CD and provide a long awaited Auto Take-on Report.
